Many of our consultations include a Sight Test (see below). We provide other consultations too, such as:
- Post-operative assessments following NHS cataract operations,
- Examinations for dry eyes,
- Examinations for flashes or floaters,
- Contact lens fittings or check ups.
Sight Tests assess whether a patient will benefit from spectacles, or whether their existing prescription can be improved. For most of our patients we recommend two to three years between Sight Tests.
Our Optomap scanning laser ophthalmoscope provides us (and our patients) with a significantly enhanced view of the inner eye, and we strongly recommend this to all of our patients.
Eye pressure tests
The icare tonometer is our preferred method for routine pressure testing. Almost all of our patients prefer it to the traditional air-puff tonometer.
Paying for consultations
NHS funding is available for some Sight Tests. This usually applies to patients who satisfy the NHS eligibility if they have a clinical need for a Sight Test. We recommend that every patient who has an NHS Sight Test also books an extra 15 minutes so that we can provide an Optomap digital scan and icare tonometry.
Privately funded Sight Tests are provided within a larger consultation package, which also provides an Optomap digital scan and icare tonometry.
Many other consultations are privately funded, but if an NHS fee can be claimed we will discuss that option with the patient.
